Elections law meeting with Egypt's ruling military a 'waste of time': Brotherhood leader
Muslim Brotherhood says Sunday's meeting between leaders of political parties and movements and Egypt's ruling military council was fruitless
Published in Ahram Online on 20 - 09 - 2011

A leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood slammed Sunday's meeting between Sami Annan, the deputy chief of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), and representatives of various political parties and movements as a “waste of time.”
Mohamed Saad El-Katatny, one of the leaders of the Brotherhood called the meeting useless and disappointing. The meeting was held after SCAF sent an invitation to representatives of several political parties to discuss the new electoral law, which has recently been issued by the council.
The law was received with nearly unanimou rejection and a heated debate followed around a hybrid voting process stipulated by the law, which combined individual candidacy and electoral lists on a 50-50 basis.
However, El-Katatny says that the council ignored suggestions presented by political parties and followed the meeting with a vague statement that it will consider the suggestions and nothing more.
Speaking to TV show host Amr El-Leithy on El Tahrir TV channel's El Midan programme, El-Katatny added that the Brotherhood and its political leg, the Freedom and Justice Party, decide their political moves after meetings held within the group and that it is only a coincidence that many of their opinions coincide with those of SCAF.
The Brotherhood has been accused of having an on-again-off-again "deal" with Egypt's military council.
