Campaign aims to re-nationalise state assets sold off under Mubarak
Activists call for protests against Mubarak-era 'privatization process' on Wednesday, demanding the re-nationalization of three formerly state-owned firms
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 09 - 2011

Members of a popular campaign aimed at re-nationalising three state companies privatized during the Mubarak era are calling for a demonstration in front of the State Council on Wednesday morning.
The planned protest is timed to coincide with a final court verdict in a suit lodged by company workers who demand that the three firms be returned to state custodianship.
The companies in question are the Tanta Company for Linen and Derivatives, the Ghazl Shebeen Spinning and Weaving Company, and the Steam Boilers Company.
The popular campaign - coordinated by the Democratic Labour Party, the Socialist Revolutionaries, the National Front for Justice and Democracy, and the Press Syndicate's Freedoms Committee - has so far succeeded in gathering 100,000 signatures in support of its twin objectives of halting Egypt's so-called “privatization process” and overturning a recent law banning labour strikes.
