Israeli diplomats to return to Egypt, new embassy offices possible Israeli diplomats set to return to Egypt this week, possible new embassy HQ on outskirts of Cairo
A number of Israeli diplomats are set to return to Egypt this week to resume work at their country's embassy in Cairo, according to Israel's Radio. Media reports conjectured that the Israeli embassy's headquarters would be changed after the old premises were attacked over a week ago. El-Hayat newspaper said an Israeli delegation had paid Cairo a visit last week in order to look for a new embassy HQ on the outskirts of the Egyptian capital. The relationship between Egypt and Israel has been seriously damaged since the latter country's troops “accidently” killed Egyptian soldiers on the joint border while chasing terrorists in August. The unfortunate incident was followed by intensive protests in Egypt as many people called on Egyptian authorities to kick out the Israeli ambassador and withdraw the Egyptian ambassador from Tel Aviv. Later on, demonstrators broke into one of the Israeli embassy's offices and sabotaged it, throwing many documents that were stored there out of the window. The Central Security Forces (CSF) eventually dispersed the crowd by bombarding the protesters with tear gas. Three demonstrators were killed in the process by live ammunition, according to forensic reports. The Israeli flag was pulled down twice from the top of the old Israeli embassy HQ in Giza in the wake of the border deaths. The Egyptian public accepting the return of the Israeli representatives in Egypt is anything but certain.
