Google celebrates 99 years since birth of Egyptian comedy star Ismail Yassin
Google has featured many Egyptian and Arab artists and poets this year in its daily doodle pictures. Today it celebrates Ismail Yassin

Google search engine celebrates the 99thanniversary of the birth of the Egyptian comedy star Ismail Yassin, who was born on this day in 1912 in Suez.
Ismail Yassin, who was known for comedy films that carry his name, was raised in Suez. However, his childhood was an unpleasant one. His mother died at an early age and his father went to jail for being highly indebted, forcing Ismail to drop out of school.
In the mid-1930s, Yassin moved to Cairo in hope of becoming a musician, joining many music bands. However, he did not succeed. He then started delivering humorous monologues and sketches and worked in the troupe of Baddea Masabny, the famous Egyptian-Lebanese dancer. His was his first taste of success.
He first appeared in cinema in 1939 in the film Khalf El-Habayeb (Behind the Lovers), and then went to work with the troupe of Aly El-Kassar, who produced 15 films for him that all carry his name (Ismail Yassin in the Army, Ismail Yassin in the Police Force, Ismail Yassin in the Navy, etc).
His popularity decreased in the 60s with the decline of his health and the rise of a new wave of cinema that sought a different acting style. He moved to Lebanon to work on some films, then returned to Egypt to end heavily in debt, dying of a heart attack on 24 May 1972, leaving behind 482 films carved into the Egyptian consciousness.
