French Institute hosts Omar Khairat, Eftekesat and theatrical performances

The five-day fest, Mesk El Lil at the French Institute, hosts bands Eftekasat, HeeJaz, Ana Masry, a teatrical group: Al Warsha Troupe and famed composer Omar Kharait from 11-15 September
The French Institute in Cairo will hold a music festival titled Mesk El Lil starting this Sunday, 11 September.
The festival aims to present the diverse sounds from Egypt's music scene and will present bands, such as Ana El Masry, HeeJaz, Al Warsha Troupe, Eftekasat and the famous Egyptian composer Omar Khairat.
Programme:
11 September
Ana Masry
The band was established in 2007 and consists of 18 members. They mix Sufi chants and Coptic hymns and uses traditional music from several areas in Egypt.
12 September - HeeJaz
HeeJaz consists of four musicians inspired by their diverse musical paths. They fuse several musical elements: oriental, jazz, blues, rock, world and gypsy music. The musicians play percussion, guitar, double bass and Mohamed Abozekry on oud.
13 September
Warsha Theatre Troupe
Warsha is an independent theatre troupe in the free theatre movement in Egypt that was established in 1987. Warsha Theatre Troupe focuses on providing a folkloric evening ambiance that include songs and storytelling.
14 September
Eftekasat
Eftekasat's music fits comfortably in the world music genre, as its mix of western and eastern instruments allows the band to blend Latin, Arabic, Greek and Balkan tunes. It was established in 2001 and has thus far released two albums: Moulid Sidi El Latini and Dandasha.
15 September
Composer, Omar Khairat
Omar Khairat is one of the most famous composers in Egypt and has composed soundtracks for many television series and films, including Youssef Shahine's Al Youm Al Sades (The Sixth Day) and Sekout Hansawar (Silence, We Will Shoot).
