Sharkiat to perform at Al-Hanaguer Theatre on Thursday A fusion of jazz and oriental sounds will fill the stage tomorrow at Cairo Opera Grounds, Zamalek
Fathy Salama: an Egyptian Grammy-award-winning musician and composer. For over a decade his ensemble, Sharkiat (Orientals) has been a platform where different musical cultures meet. Sharkiat is a fusion of jazz with oriental sounds, topped with traditional world music influences. On Sharkiat's website it states: “Fathy Salama has never hesitated to make the connection between the African, Oriental, Turkish and black rhythms. With Sharkiat, he worked out an explosive formula, interbreeding folklores of the soil and jazz, funk - even pop. In the arrival one receives jubilant music...” Sharkiat has given hundreds of successful performances in Egypt and around the world and has also participated in a number of international music festivals. The group is extremely active in Egypt's music scene Just last month it gave a several concerts at: Beit El Harrawy (11 August), Cairo Opera House Open Air Theatre (17 August) and El-Genaina Theatre, with Karima Nayt - former vocalist of Sharkiat (19 August). Their upcoming concert will take place on Thursday 25 August at Al-Hanaguer Theatre, Cairo Opera Grounds, Zamalek. The concert starts at 10 pm.
