Youngster Sobhi shines as Ahly reach Champions League round of 16
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 03 - 2016

In-form youngster Ramadan Sobhi once again stole the limelight as Ahly qualified for the CAF Champions League last 16 with a 2-0 home win over Angola's Recreativo do Libolo at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Saturday.
The 18-year-old, who can operate as a winger or playmaker, opened the scoring early in the first half following a superb individual effort and had a hand in the second which was scored by substitute John Antwi with seven minutes remaining.
Ghanaian frontman Antwi had earlier replaced Malick Evouna, who became the most expensive signing in the history of Egyptian football when he joined Ahly for a reported fee of $2.5 million last summer.
While Ramadan was at the heart of the majority of Ahly's attacking attempts, thanks to his tricks and feints, Evouna was guilty of failing to make the most of the chances created by his teammates.
Ahly, who won the last of their record eight Champions League titles in 2013, qualified for the next knockout round 2-0 on aggregate after they wasted a slew of chances in a 0-0 first-leg draw in Angola last week.
They will face Young Africans after the Tanzanians overcame Rwanda's APR with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
On 10 minutes, a deft back-heel move took Sobhi past his challenger down the left and he burst into the area and slotted home from an acute angle just when the keeper anticipated a pull-back.
The disappointing Evouna wasted a couple of half-chances and Ahly eased off after taking the lead, allowing some breathing space to the visitors whose only first-half chance saw a curling free kick palmed away by keeper Ahmed Adel on 34 minutes.
Evouna should have killed off Recreativo's hopes four minutes past the hour mark when he broke clear following a through pass from substitute Walid Soliman but he dithered on the ball to allow the keeper to gather it.
Antwi made the win safe with an easy tap in following a low cross from Soliman, who was fed by a wonderful back-heel pass from the impressive Sobhi.
