South Africa's Piennar may miss Tottenham's Premier League opener South Africa's midfielder Steven Pienaar suffers an injury during a friendly game between Tottenham Hotspur and Athletic Bilbao
Steven Pienaar is doubtful for Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League opener next weekend after sustaining an injury during a pre-season friendly on Saturday. The 29-year-old was injured during the first-half of Tottenham's 2-1 victory over Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao. “He might have torn his groin. I think we're going to take him to a specialist and have a look at him. We'll see how it goes,” Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp was quoted as saying on Kickoff.com. The injury might rule Pienaar out of South Africa's friendly game against Burkina Faso on August 10. He could also miss Tottenham's Premier League opener against his former side Everton next weekend. Pienaar joined Tottenham from Everton on a four-year deal last January. He was part of South Africa's squad for last year's World Cup finals on home soil, where they became the first hosts to fail to get beyond the first round.
