Shehata denies threatening Zamalek, sticks with Shikabala Zamalek coach Hassan Shehata is looking forward to start preparations for the new season soon, but he is perturbed by the failure of the club to meet his demands
Zamalek's new coach Hassan Shehata has denied threatening to quit his post and confirmed that he only sought confirmation that his demands will be met. His statement was released concurrently with one issued by Galal Ibrahim, the club's president, that he will step down today because of the current financial problems afflicting the club. “I had an agreement with the club's board to strengthen the current squad with new players and solve the current problems to restore stability before signing a contract. The club's real problem is a financial one,” the experienced coach said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday. “I did not threaten the club but I just asked the board to provide us with the means to succeed. I think that what I did is normal, especially as the club supporters are eager to win titles again,” he added. Zamalek face the danger of losing the services of their prolific star Mahmoud Abdel-Razek ‘Shikabala' who has recently threatened to quit after a row with the management over renewing his contract, but Shehata hopes the player will remain with the club next season. “I hope Shikabala will remain in the coming season, but it all depends on his desire. He is a kind person but his close friends urges him to enter arouse problems with the club,” the former Zamalek star in the seventieth said. Despite their earlier announcement that they would renew the twins' contract, Zamalek decided recently to appoint Shehata as the first team head coach after surprisingly dismissing coach Hossam Hassan and his brother and football director Ibrahim after a trophy-less season. Recent reports suggested that the Whites striker Ahmed Hossam "Mido" might leave the club following the appointment of Shehata, as they have had a tense relationship since their famous touchline row in the 2006 African Cup of Nations, but the coach confirms that the feud is now over. “I have no problems with Mido. I held a meeting with him recently and he showed obvious seriousness to retain his fitness.” Shehata is now considering starting the club's preparations for the new season next Saturday according to the club official website on Wednesday. The White Castle are to finalise the transfer of Egyptian skipper Ahmed Hassan within the next 48 hours.
