April 6 Youth Movement suspends Tahrir sit-in for Ramadan

Along with 26 other political groups, the April 6 Youth Movement will suspend its sit-in Tahrir Square, at least until the end of the holy month of Ramadan

The April 6 Youth Movement “Ahmed Maher Front” has announced that it will suspend participation in the current sit-in at Tahrir Square and other public squares until further notice.
According to Mohamed Adel, spokesperson of the movement, the decision came alongside the decision of 26 parties and movements to suspend the sit-in at Tahrir during the holy month of Ramadan.
Adel said the move was not a concession to pressure from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF).
The movement said in a statement that's its decision was in part influenced by the positive response of SCAF and the government to several of the 8 July demands, like speeding up Mubarak's trial and the new ministerial reshuffle, despite the fact that some NDP ministers remained.
The movement declared that it would continue to press for the rest of the 8 July demands, like suspending military courts for civilians and dismissing the general prosecutor and the chairman of Central Audit Organisation.
The movement expressed its respect for the Egyptian army, yet insisted on its right to criticise the military council and its political decisions.
The 6 April Youth added that it respects the decision of some political groups to cointinue the sit-in and that it refuses any attack on these groups or accusations against them.
The movement revealed that some 26 political groups and movements will set up a tent in Ramadan in Tahrir Square for political awareness sessions and other activities in the holy month.
Despite that the majority of political groups present in Tahrir Square announced that they would suspend their sit-in temporarily for the holy month of Ramadan, there remains a group of protesters —mainly from the martyrs' families —committed to staying on.
