Limited fan attendance in Esperance-Ahly clash Only 5,000 Esperance fans and 200 Ahly supporters will be able to attend Saturday's Champions League tie
Tunisian authorities have backtracked on a decision to hold Saturday's CAF Champions League clash between Ahly and Esperance behind closed doors. They said 5,000 Esperance fans and 200 Ahly supporters would be allowed to watch the match at 7 November Stadium in Rades. Security worries could have deprived Esperance and Ahly of the support of their enthusiastic fans as they meet in the second group stage game in Africa's premier club competition. Ahly objected to the initial decision by Tunisian authorities to hold the match behind closed doors, given that their fans had already arrived in the country “We have reservations about the decision because we should have been informed a few days ago before arriving in Tunisia,” Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said. Egypt and Tunisia are still reeling following the popular uprisings that toppled autocratic presidents Hosni Mubarak and Zine Al-Abidine Bin Ali respectively. Several domestic matches in both countries were marred by marauding crowds, which repeatedly invaded the pitch. Six-time African champions Ahly had a 3-3 home draw against Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in their opening group game, while Esperance has a 1-1 draw against Algeria's Mouloudia Alger.
