Jordanian new chairman at 1860 Munich Jordanian investor Hasan Ismaik is vowing to preserve the identity and traditions of 1860 Munich after being elected chairman of the second-division German club's board of directors
The first major Arab investor in German football, Ismaik was elected last Friday. In June, he bought 60 percent of the financially struggling club's shares, including a 49 percent voting share. Germany's top two divisions have a rule that prevents outside investors from taking a majority voting stake. Ismaik said in an interview with Munich daily Abenzeitung published Tuesday that “it would be naive and irresponsible of me to ignore the tradition, identity and history” of the club. But he said people need to accept that there is a “new partner” who wants to be involved in decisions.
