Egyptian Menna Shalabi wins best actress award at Dubai Film Festival Dubai International Film Festival grants Menna Shalabi award for best actress award in a long feature film for her role in Nawara
Egyptian actress Menna Shalabi won the award for best actress in a long feature film at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) for her role in Nawara, a film by Egyptian director Hala Khalil. Nawara is one of five Egyptian film productions that competed for the DIFF Muhr Awards. The list includes Before the Summer Crowds (Abl Zahmet El Saif), The Curve(Al Munataf), Nawara, The Wheel (El Aglaa) in the Muhr short category,and We have Never Been Kids (Abadan Lam Nakon Atfalan), which won two awards in the Muhr feature category for best director and best nonfeature film. Nawara is directed by Egyptian Hala Khalil and stars Mahmoud Hemeda and Sherine Reda.The story takes place on the eve of the 2011 uprising, and centres around Nawara, a woman in her twenties whoworks as a housemaid in a big villa at a luxury compound. During the absence of the landlord, she invites her fiancé, and together they enjoy a taste of the life of the rich and famous. The 12thedition of DIFF opened on 9 December and closes today 16 December.
