Inadequate response to revolutionary demands triggers more protests around Egypt
Sit-ins staged since last Friday across Egypt grow into large shows of anger against handling of the revolutionary demands
Published in Ahram Online on 12 - 07 - 2011

A number of protests in different Egyptian cities took place concurrently with that in Tahrir Square, using almost the same slogans and showing similar dissatisfaction towards Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's statement last night as well the ruling council's from earlier today.
In Alexandria, about 3,000 people marched from Qaed Ibrahim Square to Manshia Street. and back chanting against the rule of the military council and demanding the restructure of the police. The protesters have been sitting-in in the square for the past four daysand say they will continue their sit-in until all the demands of the revolution are met.
In Suez, where a sit-in has been going on for nine days now, a march started at 5pm from El-Arbaeen Square to the sit-in organized outside the Suez Canal headquarters. “We started as a few hundred, but as we marched more people join and as we arrived to Port Tawfik (where the Canal headquarters are) we were more than four thousand,” said Mohamed Mahmoud, from the Suez Youth Bloc.
According to Mahmoud, many people felt upset when they heard the last statement given by the military council as they felt they were being threatened. “We started the sit-in to demand the rights of the martyrs and on top of these rights is that the revolution's demands be met”, he added.
In the delta city of Mansoura, about 1,500 participated in a march that started from the location of the sit-in held for the last four days. The protesters chanted slogans demanding the rights of the martyrs as they marched to Mohamed Gamal's home and back. Gamal is a young man who was killed by the police in the city of Mansoura on 28 January as the police attacked the protesters. "I swear on your blood martyr, that I will wear black in the feast,” they chanted. "My feast is when I get our rights back."
The cities of Fayoum and Minya are also witnessing similar protests.
