Zamalek's Shikabala gets two-match ban for mocking referee Zamalek star Mahmoud ‘Shikabala' Abdel-Razek banned for the rest of the season after being sent off in a league game for mocking the referee
Zamalek forward Mahmoud "Shikabala" Abdel-Razekhas been given a two-match ban for mocking the referee during the team's 1-1 draw with Ittihad of Alexandria in Sunday's Egyptian Premier League game. The 24-year-old was punished by the Egyptian Football Association's competitions committee after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession for sarcastically protesting referee Fahim Omar's decision to award Ittihad a controversial penalty while Zamalek were leading 1-0. The suspension means Shikabala will miss the remaining two league games against Wadi Degla and El-Entag El-Harby respectively. Shikabala has been Zamalek's best performer this season, notching 13 goals to top the scorers' chart as well as creating several assists for his teammates The competitions committee also handed Ahly an LE25,000 fine, LE15,000 due to the behaviour of their fans during Sunday's 2-2 draw against Smouha and LE10,000 for late entrance to the field before kick off. Zamalek, who are now highly unlikely to end a league drought stretching back to 2004, received a LE15,000 fine for crowd trouble. Ahly, who enjoy a five-point lead over Zamalek with two matches remaining, can officially secure a seventh consecutive league title if they beat relegated Arab Contractors on Thursday.
