Berlin Islamic cultural centre hit by Molotov The Islamic cultural centre in Berlin was attacked early Thursday by an unidentified person though no injuries were reported
An Islamic cultural centre in Berlin was attacked early Thursday with a Molotov cocktail, the sixth arson attack on Muslim institutions in the German capital this year, police said. The general secretary of Germany's Central Council of Muslims has condemned the attacks. "We demand police protection for all Muslim prayer houses in Germany and expect our politicians to act accordingly," Nurhan Soykan said. An unidentified person threw a Molotov cocktail at the Islamic cultural centre of the Iranian community in Berlin's Tempelhof neighbourhood, police spokesman Thomas Neuendorf said. He said the missile set the facade of the building alight, but the fire was out before authorities arrived. Nobody was injured, but state criminal police were investigating. The Sehitlik Mosque, Berlin's largest has been attacked four times this year, and the Al-Nur mosque in the city's Neukoelln neighbourhood once. Neither attack caused injury or serious damage. Neuendorf said, according to initial information that the attacks were not committed by the same person and are not connected but police are yet to totally rule out that possibility. "The motives for the attacks are also not clear at this point," he added.
