Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has arrived in Singapore Sunday where he will meet his counterpart, President Tony Tan, and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The visit is the first by an Egyptian president to Singapore since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966 and also coincides with Singapore's 50th anniversary of independence.
The Egyptian president started his tour Sunday by visiting Singapore's largest desalination power plant where Egypt is hoping to benefit from Singaporean experience and innovation.
El-Sisi will also attend an event organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, International Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation as reported by Singaporean newspaper The Strait Times.
In an official statement, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said that El-Sisi's visit to Singapore comes within the framework of his efforts to strengthen Egypt's relations with the Asian country.
He also added that Singapore has experience in various fields that Egypt is interested in developing, such as the development and management of ports and the management of water resources and improving public education.
El-Sisi is accompanied by Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hossam Eldin Moghazy and Minister of Investment Ashraf Salman.
El-Sisi will also travel to China and Indonesia where he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
