Official: Hassan Shehata quits as Egypt football manager

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially accepted the resignation of national team coach Hassan Shehata after the disappointing goalless draw with South Africa on Sunday ended the team's hopes of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations.
An EFA press release said that Shehata had personally told the team of his decision to step down from his post.
The 61-year-old tactician lead the Pharaohs team to three successive ACN titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010 but this year he failed to book a place in the 2012 finals.
Egypt's hopes of reaching the 2012 African Cup of Nations, co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, is virtually at an end, following the result against South Africa.
The Pharaohs are currently bottom of Group G with two points, behind South Africa (eight), Niger (six) and Sierra Leone (five) at the halfway stage.
