Egypt's Ahly to unveil new 'Sporta' kit on 9 May
Published in Ahram Online on 29 - 04 - 2015

Egyptian giants Ahly, Africa's most successful side of all time, will unveil their new kit that is supplied by Saudi Arabia's Sporta on 9 May, the club said on Wednesday.
Ahly have struck a deal with the Saudi sportswear group to end a six-year association with Adidas, sparking criticism from their die-hard fans who felt the new contract is not up to the standards of the Red Devils.
The club insisted Sporta's offer was the best they got.
"The new kit will be launched on 9 May in a celebration at one of Cairo's hotels … Sporta's offer was the best from all aspects," Ahly said in a statement on their official website.
"The club has already received the first installment of the deal - 350,000 dollars. Sporta will supply kits worth 550,000 dollars in the first year and that amount will increase by 10% the following years."
Ahly should have worn the new kit at the beginning of the season but reports had surfaced of a disagreement between the club and Sporta over the quality of the new shirts.
The record eight-time African Champions League winners will receive $120,000 should they win the trophy again. They will also get $50,000 if they win the Egyptian Premier League.
Ahly are unlikely to equal their own record of winning the Premier League title nine times in a row, having fallen 11 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek with 14 matches remaining.
They are also at risk of missing out on a Champions League place next season as they are seven points behind second-placed ENPPI, who played a game more. The top two qualify for Africa's elite club competition while the third reach the less glamorous Confederation Cup.
