Egypt's newly appointed Interior Minister Magdy Abdel-Ghafar has announced the implementation of a security plan ahead of the economic development conference, scheduled to take place on 13-14 March, state news agency MENA reported on Saturday. The three-day conference, to be held in the resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh, will address ways to position Egypt "as an attractive destination on the global investment map." Abdel-Ghafar stressed that military and security forces would work together to ensure the execution of the nationwide plan ahead of the conference. “The plan necessitates that all security bodies work together to be able to execute the plan while abiding by the law, respecting human rights and the dignity of the Egyptian citizens,” the minister said. Sixty countries will participate in the conference, including Russia and the United States A week before the conference, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah-El-Sisi announced a surprise cabinet reshuffle that removed interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim, who was appointed advisor to the prime minster on security issues. The reshuffle also included the ministries of tourism, culture, agriculture and others. On Friday, Abdel-Ghaffar reshuffled a number of senior positions within the interior ministry.
