Egypt-Tanzania bilateral talks cover Nile resources
As part of talks between the two leaders, the controversial Nile resource-sharing agreement was discussed

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met this morning with his Tanzanian counterpart Jakaya Kikwete for talks that focused on the political agenda of east Africa, including the upcoming referendum on the separation of south Sudan and its anticipated consequences. Also on the agenda was the disagreement among upstream and lower stream countries of the Nile River on the sharing of resources.
Tanzania is one of five countries of the upstream states that last May signed a controversial agreement that calls for the redistribution of the Nile's water resources. The new agreement, which is to reduce Egypt's annual share, was rejected by the two lower stream countries Egypt and Sudan. Both Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo have not yet signed the agreement.
The Tanzanian President was given a red carpet reception at the presidential headquarters in Heliopolis where he held tete-a-tete talks with Mubarak followed by a lunch for the two delegations.
