Egyptians more passionate about football than Spaniards: Ahly boss Garrido Garrido, who says he enjoys life in Egypt, has already secured two titles with Ahly
Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido has said he is enjoying his current spell with Ahly, claiming that Egyptian fans are much more enthusiastic about the sport than Spanish fans. "Passion for football in Egypt is three or four times more than in Spain. All fans here always ask you to win and get more and more titles," Garrido said in an interview with a Spanish radio station. "I am here with a famous and victorious club. I am happy with my experience with Ahly and what I have achieved until now," added Garrido referring to winning Egypt's Super Cup and CAF Confederation Cup titles. Asked about security in Egypt, which has faced periods of political turmoil since the 2011 revolution, Garrido said he was unconcerned. "Egypt is safe and stable. The international media is exaggerating the matter a lot. I don't know a great deal about politics here but I live here without problems," the 45-year-old coach explained. The former Villarreal and Real Betis coach was named Ahly coach in July. Garrido claimed his first title after just two months at the helm, when Ahly beat rivals Zamalek in Egypt's Super Cup match on penalties in September. Adding another precious trophy to his managerial career with Ahly, the Spanish boss guided the Reds to the CAF Confederation Cup earlier this month, beating Sewe Sport of Ivory Coast.
