Ahly coach aims for Confederation Cup victory Juan Carlos Garrido praises players' performance during their 2-1 win over Coton Sport of Cameroon in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal
Ahly's Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido has expressed his pleasure at beating Coton Sport of Cameroon and reaching the African Confederation Cup final, which he said was his first target as coach. Egypt's Ahly came from behind to beat Cameroon's Coton Sport 2-1 and qualify for the African Confederation Cup final for the first time on Sunday. "I am happy for reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final," Garrido was quoted as saying on the club's official website after the game. "I worked from the first day I took the job to reach this final," he added. The Cairo giants won 1-0 in the first leg in Cameroon to qualify for the final, winning 3-1 on aggregate. "The game was divided into two legs, the first was played in Cameroon while the second was completed in Cairo and we achieved our target by reaching the final," the Spanish tactician concluded. Ahly were demoted to the Confederation Cup after they were eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, Africa's elite competition which they have won a record eight times.
