Noble LaureateAhmed Zewailsays Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has appointed a new presidential advisory council made up of academics and experts to provide non-traditional solutions for issues facing Egypt, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.
Zewail gave a press conference early Wednesday in the Garden City district of downtown Cairo.
He also said that it was the first time that an Egyptian president uses the expertise of scientists and experts in a presidential advisory committee.
Zewail stressed that the members of the committee will not be paid for this mission as they are taking part in this committee as a service to Egypt.
He also spoke in the presser about a new university for scientific research that will be built in the city of 6th of October in the Giza governorate.
The Engineering Authority of the armed forces will participate in the construction of its headquarters, said Zewail.
Arab League Chief, Nabil El-Araby, and other trustee members from the Zewail City of Science and Technology attended the presser.
El-Sisi issued a decree last week to form a presidential advisory council made up of Nobel laureate Ahmed Zewail, prominent Egyptian heart surgeon Magdi Yacoub, geologist and former NASA scientist Farouk El-Baz and president of Microsoft Middle East and Africa Ali Faramawy.
In a statement the president said the council would have a vital role in advising on national projects, such as the project to create a parallel channel to the Suez Canal, and the project to develop Egypt's road network.
The president also said that the new council will help to correct religious discourse, improve media discourse and improve the quality of education and link it to the needs of the market.
