Southampton signed Algeria midfielder Saphir Taider on a one-year loan deal from Italian giants Inter Milan, the English Premier League side announced on Wednesday. The 22-year -old produced some fine displays with Algeria at the World Cup in Brazil, helping them reach the last 16 for the first time in their history. Southampton manager Ronald Koeman heaped praise on the player, describing him as "talented". ''He is a talented football player. He's 22 and has already played for Algeria at the World Cup," the Dutch coach told the Daily Mail on Wednesday. "It's our philosophy to bring in talented young players who like to learn and develop, and that's true of Saphir. "I've spoken to him about the positions he can play. It was a good meeting – he showed me real ambition. 'Taider brings quality and we need that. We need competition in the squad as well and that will be good."
