Foreign ministry facilitates return of Egyptians from Libya Egyptian foreign ministry facilitates the return nationals from Libya amid clashes in Benghazi between Islamist militias and Libyan armed forces
Egypt is currently facilitating the departure of Egyptians who want to leave Libya, especially those who want to leave Benghazi through Tunisia, Egypt's ministry of foreign affairs spokesperson Ambassador Badr Abdel-Atti told Ahram Online on Thursday afternoon. "It is not an evacuation; we only facilitate the departure of Egyptians who willingly want to depart and return back to Egypt," Ambassador Badr Abdel-Atti said, adding that reports in the media about evacuating all Egyptians from Libya were untrue. Abdel-Atti told Ahram Online that Egypt had talks with Libyan authorities and tribes regarding the safety of Egyptians in Libya. Earlier Thursday Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting in Cairo with the Egyptian ambassador in Tripoli to discuss the situation in Libya and its impact on Egyptians there. EgyptAir, the state-owned air carrier, issued a statement on Thursday that it had sent a Boeing777 on Wednesday night to Djerba international airport in Tunisia to help in the evacuation of hundreds of Egyptians who were stuck on the Libyan-Tunisian border after fleeing Benghazi. The Libyan Red Crescent reported on Thursday afternoon that an Egyptian woman was killed in Benghazi after being shot during clashes between the militias. Islamist groups have already seized the Libyan Special Forces headquarters in Benghazi after days of fights between the Islamist militias and the army. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/107454.aspx
