Egypt's president and top officials attend funeral for 22 soldiers killed by militants at post near Libya's border on Saturday

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi along with top state officials attended on Sunday the military funeral for 22 Egyptian borders guards killed on Saturday afternoon.
The army said militants killed 22 border guards on Saturday when they fired rocket-propelled grenades at a military checkpoint in Al-Wadi Al-Gedid governorate, 630 km west of Cairo.
Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, Defense Minister Sedky Sobhy and head of Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayyeb were among the mourners, army spokesman Mohamed Samir said.
According to Samir, El-Sisi praised the sacrifice of the dead soldiers and vowed that such attacks will fail to destroy the determination of Egyptians and their armed forces to fight terrorism.
The funeral was held at Almaza military airport, where the bodies of the 22 borders guards have been kept since arriving Saturday night.
Saturday's attack is the biggest single act of violence against army or police since last August when 25 police conscripts were killed near the North Sinai city of Rafah.
The Egyptian presidency has announced three days of national mourning for the soldiers.
