Brotherhood's El-Beltagy fined for libel
Leading Muslim Brotherhood figure Mohamed El-Beltagy has been fined by a Cairo court for libelling lawyer Mortada Mansour
Published in Ahram Online on 10 - 05 - 2014

Senior Muslim Brotherhood figure Mohammed El-Beltagy, who is in prison facing a number of charges, has been fined LE20,000 and ordered to pay LE5,000 compensation to lawyer Mortada Mansour on charges of libel.
El-Beltagy is currently detained in Tora prison in Cairo, along with most other senior leaders of the Brotherhood movement. El-Beltagy is facing a number of charges related to inciting violence.
The Cairo court also fined a journalist with Akhbar Al-Youm daily LE20,000 on the same charges.
Mansour was one of several figures from the era of ousted president Hosni Mubarak who was accused of orchestrating the Battle of the Camel, when pro-Mubarak thugs rode camels and horses into Tahrir Square on 2 February, at the height of the 2011 revolution, and attacked protesters, killing 11 and injuring several hundred.
He and 24 other Mubarak-era figures were acquitted in 2012 on charges of inciting the violence.
Mansour -- who was elected head of the Zamalek sports club for the third time on 28 March of this year -- has been a controversial figure in Egyptian society since the 1990s, with a resume full of controversial lawsuits and public statements.
He hosted his own television programme on Al-Faraeen satellite channel in which he criticised many youth activists associated with the 2011 revolution.
