The trial of Al-Jazeera journalist Abdallah El-Shamy was postponed Saturday for another 45 days. "After throwing out media and arguing with defendants, judge cancels today's hearing for mass trial including @abdallahelshamy. 45 more days" his brother Mosaab El-Shamy said on Twitter. Abdallah has been detained since August when security forces violently dispersed sit-ins supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi. He is being tried with 312 others. Head of the Press Syndicate Diaa Rashwan sent a request to Prosecutor-General Hisham Barakat last week calling for the release of El-Shamy. El-Shamy told reporters Saturday he has lost 35 kilos on hunger strike and that he is detained in a small cell with 15 other detainees where water is cut 12 hours a day. Also Saturday, Cairo Criminal Court adjourned the trial of 20 other Al-Jazeera journalists to 15 May without granting them bail. The two trials coincided with World Press Freedom Day. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/100371.aspx
