Ahly awaits tough tests in Confederation Cup The Cairo giants' boss considers competing at the Confederation Cup, Africa's secondary club competition, as just as important as being involved in the Champions league
Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef believes that Ahly's mission at the group stage of the Confederation Cup is not easy, insisting that the Cairo giants are competing with strong teams. Egyptian champions Ahly were drawn on Tuesday for Group B with Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Tunisia), Sewe Sport (Ivory Coast) and Nkana (Zambia). In Group A, four other teams are competing; Coton Sport, ASEC Mimosas (Cote d'Ivoire), AS Real (Mali), AC Leopards (Congo). "The eight teams competing in the group stage are all strong," Youssef told reporters after the draw. Eight time African Champions league winners, Ahly, bid to become the first Egyptian side to win the Confederation Cup. The Cairo giants are competing in the continent's secondary club competition after their elimination from the Champions league in the continent's secondary club competition. "I feel that we are still competing in the Champions league as there are teams in the Confederation Cup stronger than others in the Champions league," Ahly coach said. "We played before with Tunisia's Etoile Sportive du Sahel and our new confrontation will be strong and tough for both teams. Also Nkana will not be an easy opponent," the rookie coach concluded.
