CAIRO: The al-Tagammu Party today called on Egyptian people to unify and confront the demonstration scheduled for Friday, November 18, calling the protest a challenge to the peoples' will. The majority of people support drafting basic constitutional principles that express Egyptians' ambitions and that respect freedom, democracy and human rights, the Party added in a statement issued yesterday. Those who refuse constitutional principles are opponents of a democratic constitution ensuring equality and the rule of law, the statement continued. The calls for the cancellation of the document pave the way for a religious state in Egypt, the Party added. “If the opponents focused on the articles that expand the military's authority, we would support them,” the statement also read. The current campaign to refuse constitutional principles are in line with the extremist calls of those who want to exclude Copts, seculars and non-praying Muslims.
