Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church in New York issued a statement on Wednesday October 26 demanding support for Egypt's Coptic Christian Orthodox Church after the Maspiro clashes. The church made a statement; “By the name of the clergy of the Greek Orthodox parish house in the U.S, and we as members of the Holy Synod, announce our honest support for the Christian Coptic Church through this difficult transitional phase in Egypt's national history.” “However, we oppose all religious violence committed by anyone or any trend. The Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Pope Bartholomew clearly announced any crime committed in the name of religion is a crime against religion.” “We claim all leaders of Christian sects, particularly our Christian Orthodox communities in the Middle East, to support all Christians through their struggle for the Coptic Church in Egypt. We also support all Christians in the Middle East who face unusual challenges to reduce their freedom and impose restricts on their religious freedom.”
