CAIRO: UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said a free and fair elections is not possible unless there is a certain limit of security available in the country. He said that the people need to feel secure and free to vote for their choices, “this is indispensable”, he added in a press conference yesterday in el-Sawy Cultural wheel. Clegg mentioned that he have discussed that issue with the Egyptian officials he met yesterday, and whether the authorities are sure about the security situation regarding the upcoming election or not. Clegg commented on the Maspero clashes saying it was a tragedy, for Egypt , Uk and everyone else who are interested in the peaceful transition in Egypt. After Maspero clashes, that took place on 9th of October, where the army attacked a peaceful demonstration, which left behind 27 dead and hundreds of injured Egyptians. The last clashes resulted in a stir over the rights of the religion minorities in Egypt, specially in the new Egypt after January 25th revolution, although the eyewitnesses of the 9th of October clashes said the main reason why these clashes started had nothing to do with religion. During the press conference Clegg said that he hopes all Egyptians receive a fair and equal protection. Clegg mentioned that there's no official or a high level relations between UK government and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, while assuring in the same time that there's no “taboo” in dealing with specific political party , or group. He added that there was representatives from MB attending his meeting with the youth activists earlier before the press conference. During his meeting with the Egyptian Youth in el-Sawy Cultural wheel, Clegg expressed his admiration of the Egyptian youth and their participation in the Revolution, as well as their optimism for better future. He said that what Egyptians have done is an inspiration not only for the British but also for the whole Region who followed the steps of the Egyptians. Clegg expressed his hope in canceling the Emergency Law as soon as possible. He added that Egyptians and British share common global values, like equality before the law, respecting human rights, real pluralism, and fair democracy, as well as mutual respect between the men and women, and among those who belong to different religions.
