CAIRO – Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) investment in Egypt does not fit the Egyptian agricultural sector, reported Amr Ramadan, the deputy assistant to the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs for Islamic Cooperation, International Specialized Agencies and Non-Aligned Affairs. Ramadan received Deptuy General-Director of the FAO Manoj Joneja yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “FAO investment in Egypt does not exceed U.S. $10.8 million,” reported Ramadan. Cooperation however may include other fields, he added. Ramadan reported that they agreed to increase FAO projects in Egypt not just in the agricultural field but also in agricultural development, fisheries and genetic research. This will help Egyptian efforts to increase food and develop agriculture, he said. Ramadan also discussed ways to increase FAO activities in the Near East Region through its regional office in Cairo. The Near East Region comprises only eight percent of technical cooperation supplies in the 2012 – 2013 budget.
