CAIRO: Plainclothes Egyptian security forces stormed the Al-Jazeera office in Mubasher Misr in Cairo today to interrogate staff about office work permits, reported Ahmed Zein, a member of the Al-Jazeera staff. The office applied for renewals on its working permit four months ago but Egyptian officials postponed the renewal and told staffers to continue working until permits could be issued, Zein said. One of the broadcast television systems was confiscated and broadcast engineer Ahmed el-Banna was arrested, Zein said. Station broadcasting will be slightly affected but the staff is trying to resume business. Security forces also told the staff they had received noise complaints from office neighbors in the building, Zein added. Youm7 reported earlier that National Security agents and media authorization officers interrogated several Al-Jazeera staff members while documents and office files were confiscated.
