Cairo's press Wednesday focused on the declarations of General Ismail Etman, a member of Egypt's ruling military council, the killing of Libya's head of intelligence, declarations of potential presidential candidate Mohamed el-Baradei, and statements by the chairman of the Libyan National Transitional Council. Youm7 Ismail Etman, A member of Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), said that the Camp David treaty, signed between Egypt and Israel in 1979, will not be amended immediately. Etman said any amendment should be based on an agreement between the two countries. Etman warned of extremist elements working to drive a wedge between the residents of the Sinai Peninsula and Egyptian Armed Forces. The Egyptian Minister of Education, Ahmed Gamel el-Din Moussa, issued a decision exempting sons of those killed during the January 25 revolution from attendance fees for government schools until their graduation from secondary school. Al-Ahram The state-owned daily conducted an interview with the head of the Libyan National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdel Galil, who expressed his hopes to establish a parliamentary regime, and requested the Libyan people's patience during the current period, which will see difficult economic conditions. Abdel Hamid cited the need to evaluate the education system. Egypt needs a revolution in education to accomplish notable changes, according to Abdel Hamid. Abdel Hamid said that state-sponsored cultural awards should be reviewed, clarifying that they are analyzing the voting process behind the award process. Al-Akhbar reported that the Principal Bank for Agriculture, Development, and Credit would extend the grace period for farmers to repay debts until September 30, paving the way for the defaulters to repay their debts. Al-Masry al-Youm The Israeli army deployed additional troops on the border with Egypt to confront potential attacks like the attack targeting the port city of Eilat that left eight Israelis dead and 30 injured. Al-Shorouq Potential presidential candidate Mohamed el-Baradei criticized the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), clarifying that the military council has full authority but has not met its responsibilities, and the government has no authority to fulfill its role. El-Baradei also criticized the police, who have failed to restore security and stability to the Egyptian street. El-Baradei warned of another revolution that will not be peaceful. He justified such a possibility, saying that those who made the January 25 revolution are frustrated as they became defendants after they worked to open the door for a better future. El-Baradei said that police institutions should be reformed and change the ideology of officers.
