ARISH, Egypt: Egyptian security and armed forces arrested two people tied to extremist groups in the North Sinai town of Arish on Wednesday in relation to a July 27 attack on an Arish police station. The forces stormed a workshop and arrested two men after seizing weapons, ammunition and materials used to manufacture bombs and explosive belts. The defendants acknowledged that they manage the workshop with the goal of attacking police stations and undertaking other militant activities. Security forces have taken legal measures against the men. Egyptian security forces have recently embarked on a campaign to contain the deteriorating security situation in the Sinai Peninsula after attacks on energy infrastructure and security forces.
