Egypt activist called before military prosecution
Published in Youm7 on 14 - 08 - 2011

CAIRO: Egypt's military prosecution has summoned activist Asmaa Mahmouz to appear for questioning on Sunday morning.
Asmaa, 26, is a well-known activist who is a member of the Egyptian Trend political party and was formerly a leader of the April 6 movement. She has been summoned for investigation regarding case No. 55/2011.
Asmaa's father said a police officer knocked on their door today and inquired about Asmaa. The policeman delivered a letter for her signed by the president of the military prosecution.
The letter said:
Regarding case No. 55/2011
From the general military prosecutor to the citizen Asmaa MahfouzVisit us tomorrow for investigation at 10:00am in the military judicial building.
Groups of activists have called for a protest in solidarity with Asmaa outside the military prosecution building. The activists have launched a wide campaign on Facebook and Twitter titled, ‘I support Asmaa Mahfouz.' They reject military trials and investigations of citizens.
Asmaa is credited as one of the Egyptian youth who helped spark the mass uprising that began on January 25 through a video blog posted a week before the revolution. In the video, she called on Egyptians to go to the streets with her on January 25 to call for change in Egypt.
Asmaa is also a member of the Youth Revolution Coalition.
