The polarization between political parties does not reflect the wishes of the people and is isolating all parties from the vast majority of Egyptians, said Essam Zidan, spokesman for the Eslah and Nahda Party. “Political parties are pursuing their own interests at the expense of the country; they should remain committed to achieving the demands of the January 25 Revolution,” he said. It is dangerous if different political parties are protesting against one another because it will undermine national unity in this critical transition period, said Zidan. Such polarization will have a negative impact on the Egyptian revolution, particularly as the trials of former regime figures begin in earnest. “Islamic and liberal parties must engage in real dialogue that isn't exclusionary in order to form cohesive and mutually agreed upon goals,” said Zidan. Each party can maintain their ideological identity while cooperating with other forces, he added. The Eslah and Nadha Party is poised to sponsor an initiative to unify forces, fight divisive elements and maintain the gains of the revolution, Zidan said.
