ASYUT, Egypt: The Vice President of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) affiliated Freedom and Justice Party, Essam el-Erian, quoted the Quranic verse “Oh you ants, go into your homes” when commenting on the dissolved members of the National Democratic Party nominated for parliamentary elections.
El-Erian added that the parliament has to be cleaned from corruption, and that those who used public money for elections must be revealed. He added that it must be known whether it was Ahmed Ezz or Mohammad Abu el-Enein who stole public money to forge parliamentary elections during former President Hosni Mubarak's regime.
El-Erian said during a public conference in Asyut that Essam Sharaf's government asked the MB to submit new proposals concerning the new government but the proposals were not considered. The MB, however, is not upset because the most important decisions are in Sharaf's hands, he added.
El-Erian refused the rumors claiming that there are thugs who were killed among the martyrs of the January 25 Revolution. He added that all Egyptians have to face the police.
He also said he is puzzled with the case of the snipers who were assigned to kill protestors, especially during the January 25 Revolution. He contemplates whether they were working for the Ministry of Interior, whether they were businessmen, or whether they were sent from foreign countries that seek to sabotage Egypt.
Many protestors were killed by snipers during demonstrations and we should put this case into our consideration, said el-Erian.
Regarding the law of elections passed by the ruling military council, he said there are notes and criticisms on the law and that all Egyptians want an absolute list of the parties and a proportionally representative system.
El-Erian said his party has sent a note to the military council on this matter but the note has been ignored.
All political parties will meet next Sunday in order to express their refusal of the law, he said. He added that if the council does not consider the note they sent they will deal with the situation with all firmness.
EL-Erian also criticized the wave of anger in Egypt which is getting translated into sits-in, demonstration and closing the roads. He said that every Egyptian has the right to express his opinion freely without harming the interests of the public.
Responding to those who said he MB did not participate in the January 25 Revolution, el-Erian said: “Go back to Youm7's website and you will find that I have previously said that we will participate in January 25 demonstrations."
He also condemned the foreign interventions occurring in Libya, Syria and Yemen.
