Egypt will achieve democracy despite American attempts to manipulate Egypt's future, said El-Sayyed El-Badawi, chairman of al-Wafd Party. He said the Egyptian people, who managed to achieve miracle during the January 25 Revolution, will counter all threats which may affect their revolution. El-Badawi said the elections of al-Wafd's High Commission will be a model of democracy to Egypt and the whole region, just as the party's leadership election was before. El-Badawi added in his speech before the party's general assembly that the party would call for a primary election if it failed to be the ruling party or at least a main part of the ruling coalition in the next parliamentary elections. He emphasized that the members of al-Wafd should meet the expectations of the Egyptian people especially as the party was biased to the people throughout its history in different issues. El-Badawi said the party's main objective is to achieve the interests of the country and the citizens. He stressed that national unity and citizenship are main principles of the party, clarifying that divisions Egypt has witnessed recently are a result of foreign hands attempting to manipulate the unity of the country. He said the U.S. will not accept Egypt as the biggest democratic country in the region. El-Badawi also said Egyptians should be aware that attempts to manipulate national unity are an attempted coup against the revolution. He reminded the attendees that his party protected the national unity in 1919 when it raised the slogans of "Viva crescent and cross" and "Religion is for God and the country is for all." El-Badawi confirmed that his party's withdrawal from the 2010 parliamentary elections paved the way for overthrowing the former regime. He added that his party announced its position on the January 25 Revolution from the beginning. He said that his name was included in the list of people banned from traveling after he announced that the president's legitimacy had ended, adding that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) removed his name from the list. El-Badawi praised the positive repercussions of the public diplomatic tours which included Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan and Southern Sudan. He said that the idea was suggested by Mustafa al-Gendy, the minister of the African Affairs in Wafd's Shadow Cabinet.
