Arabic: سمير رضوان Samir Radwan was appointed Minister of Finance by former President Hosni Mubarak on February 6, 2011 to replace Yousef Boutros-Ghali. He resigned on July 17, 2011 and was replaced by Hazem al-Belbawi. Radwan was a former senior economist at the International Labor Organization and an economist with a liberal viewpoint and interest in employment and human development. Critics question Radwan's ability to fill Boutros-Ghali's shoes: during his tenure as Minister of Finance, Boutros-Ghali slashed income and corporate taxes from 40 percent to 20 percent. Radwan has been dealing with the Egyptian pound, trying to keep its value stable as the Ministry of Finance puts in billions of dollars to keep the Egyptian economy stable in the wake of Egypt's January 25 Revolution.
