Manchester United extended their Premier League winning streak to three matches with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday. The hosts took an early lead when Jermain Defoe opened the scoring only seconds past the kick off, before the defending champions replied fiercely. United overturned their one-goal deficit before the interval when Ryan Giggs and Anderson netted one each on 25 and 41 minutes respectively. Evergreen striker Wayne Rooney ensured the Red Devils' superiority with a third strike 12 minutes from time. The visitors were outnumbered for over half an hour, after Paul Scholes was sent off in the 59th minute for two bookable offences. Hotspur had a splendid start to the season after winning their first four opening games. After being condemned to their first loss, Spurs, who were keeping pace at the top, moved back to third place on 12 points, behind second-placed United on goal difference. Chelsea are still on top with 15 points, after defeating Stoke City 2-1 away earlier in the day.
