Defending champions Ahli moved into second place in the Egyptian League following an easy 1-0 home victory over Tersana in a dull match on Thursday. Mohamed Abou-Treika's trademark free-kick midway through the first-half was enough to give Ahli all three points. The Red Devils are second in the league table with 14 points, two behind leaders Al-Gaish while Tersana lie tenth on seven points. The match never witnessed any kind of excitement, especially with the fact that it was played behind closed doors. Ahli were handed the sanction following their fans' inappropriate behavior during the team's 1-0 Cairo derby victory over Zamalek. The hosts had the first sight of goal after eight minutes when Abou-Treika's low shot from the edge of the area was collected by Tersana keeper Ahmed Saad.
Three minutes later, Angolan striker Flavio met Gilberto's cross from the left but his header was easily handled by Saad. Tersana midfielder Mahmoud Samir, a reported target for Ahli, collected a pass on the left flank and cut inside before shooting towards goal but the weak shot didn't bother guardian Essam Al-Hadari. Classy playmaker Abou-Treika broke the deadlock in the 21st minute after sending a clinical free-kick into the bottom corner of Saad's net. Neither side succeeded in creating clear-cut chances during the second-period. Ahli defense was never tested by the sluggish Tersana as the Cairo giants claimed their second successive league victory.
