Ajax opened their Dutch Eredivisie season with an 8-1 demolition at newly-promoted side Graafschap Doetinchem on Sunday. Holland striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hit four times while Hedwiges Maduro had two goals. Luis Suarez and Kennedy Bakircioglu completed the drubbing. Huntelaar proved a point with his performance after he was surprisingly left out by Marco Van Basten for Holland's friendly against Switzerland on Wednesday. Elsewhere, champions PSV Eindhoven needed two late goals from Ibrahim Afellay and Mike Zonneveld to grab a 2-0 win at Heracles Almelo. Feyenoord also registered a 3-0 away victory over FC Utrecht courtesy of goals from Luigi Bruins, Nick Hofs and new signing Roy Makaay. AZ Alkmaar followed in the footsteps of the top teams, as they thrashed newly-promoted VVV 4-0 away, with Brazilian new-signing Ari scoring twice.
