Egyptian business with hotels and other tourist projects in the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada have complained Sunday to Prime Ahmed Nazif of repeated oil slicks that have harmed both their businesses and the coral reefs off the coast of the city. "Nazif assigned Minister of Environment Maged George, Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi and Red Sea Governor Magdi Qubeisi to visit the site of the leak and to make any necessary steps to clean up the oil spill," the independent news website Al-Youm Al-Sabea quoted senior officials as saying. It added that the three officials visited tourist sites and resorts as well as the Social Club in Hurghada. "The cleanup of the oil leak near the Social Club is complete, and cleanup of the other affected areas is underway," a Ministry of the Environment statement said Sunday. It added that the Ministry was looking into the reasons for the leak and the compensations to be paid to the businessmen. "We have also contacted the Suez Canal Authority in order to provide information on the oil carriers which passed the canal last Tuesday and Wednesday," said the statement.
