The Findlaw Legal Curiosities Blog published the following crime story on September 17, 2012: “A Florida mother tried to give herself a leg up in a child-custody dispute, but here's the kicker: She ended up allegedly beating her son's father with his own prosthetic leg. “Jadian Hatfield, 23, Hooters waitress from Pensacola, Florida, Fla., allegedly tried to kidnap her 2-year-old son from his father's home in nearby Okaloosa County, local WEAR-TV reports. About 11pm on August 27, she showed up at the home of Brandon Fleming, 25, accompanied by two men and a shotgun. “Suffice it to say, that is not how the court-ordered child-custody exchange was supposed to go down. Hatfield and Fleming were supposed to share custody of their son and exchange the child every two weeks, according to a statement by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office." Under a horrifying headline: Rodney King Found Dead In A Swimming Pool: Two Jailed Over Prosthetic Leg Man's Murder, Sky News of November 23, 2011 reported: “Two men who stamped a severely disabled man to death before stealing his prosthetic leg have been jailed for life for murder. “Roy Bush, 44, was punched and kicked in his own flat in Scunthorpe, north Lincolnshire, in March during a drunken attack by Liam Campbell, 26, and Joe Harrison, 27. KOAA.com published on July 5, 2012 the following crime story which was headlined: Homeless Amputee Strangled, Possibly Beaten with Own Prosthetic. The story said: “Authorities in Pueblo now say a homeless amputee who was killed last week, was strangled and may have been beaten with his own prosthetic. The body of Michael Richards, 64, was found in a homeless camp near Fountain Creek on June 29. “Richard Sheppard and Hugh Smith were arrested in connection to the crime and are facing charges of second degree murder. “According to an arrest affidavit, the victim's body was found in their homeless camp under a tarp. Transients in the area told police Sheppard admitted he "choked" Richards and may haven beaten him to death with his own prosthetic leg."
