CAIRO - Egypt's Parties' Committee has approved a new party – the National Party of Egypt – established by Talaat el-Sadat, a former MP and a well-known lawyer. The committee, chaired by Counsellor Mohamed Momtaz Metwalli, said that the new party could start political work as of August 17, while an official announcement of this has to be made within 10 days in Al-Akhbar and Al-Gomhuria Arabic-language daily newspapers. The new political entity is scheduled to hold a public conference to announce its programme after the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which is expected to end on August 30. El-Sadat, a nephew of late President Anwar el-Sadat, submitted a request to set up the party on July 27.
