CAIRO, April 29, 2018 - The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, on Sunday attended a ceremony held by Cairo University to mark the laying of the foundation stone of the university's international branch in the Sixth of October City. Also present were the President of Cairo University Dr Mohamed Othman el-Khosht, the Governor of Giza Major General Kamal el-Dali, former secretary general of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa and several senior officials, heads of universities, university professors and experts in higher education. Addressing the function, Dr el-Khosht said that the new branch would be built on an area of 575 feddans, would have athird-generation system and would be twinned to a number of prestigious universities, so it would grant joint certificates and scientific degrees. He confirmed that the aim of the international branch of Cairo University was to provide an integrated educational system based on co-operation with international universities, institutions, and educational and research centres. "The new university branch is set to accomplish scientific and research excellence by clinching its partnership with these institutions, establishing a portfolio of international programmes, working on research and industry projects and providing distinguished graduates with competitive potential who will work inside and outside Egypt," Dr el-Khosht said. The university would be transformed into an incubator for innovative projects, it would create research teams in the fields of inter-research, it would address real problems, meet the labour market's priorities and needs, and actively engage in the global market, he added. During the ceremony, Cairo University showed a documentary about the university and its mission in Egyptian society.
