CAIRO, April 10, 2018 - The Governor of Aswan, Major General Magdi Hegazi, on Tuesday inaugurated three new solar power plants in Benban, Aswan. They have a total capacity of 186 MW and cost of $180 million. This is a part of the project to establish the first solar city in Egypt. "The presence of an international alliance of Egyptian, Spanish, Chinese, Saudi and Korean companies and banks reflects Egypt's co-operation and openness to all countries to develop and reinvigorate the national economy as well as provide employment opportunities for young people," Hegazi said at the opening ceremony on Tuesday. The solar city, which is being built in Benban, is a project considered akin to that of the Aswan High Dam. It has 44 solar power stations. Four of them have been completed with a capacity of 500MVA per station. Infinity solar power plant in Aswan has recently entered the stage of operation with a capacity of 50MW. Established in 2014, Infinity solar power plant seeks to use Egypt's ideal environment and various unexploited renewable energy resources, mainly focusing on solar energy, to build a greener, healthier and more sustainable future for Egypt. The ceremony was attended by the President of the general contractor of the project, Enara Egypt, Sherif el-Gabali, in addition to other senior officials of the alliance.
